AFL player avoids conviction over unlicensed charge
Friday, 5 February 2010 9:43:21 AM

NATIONAL, February 5, 2010: AFL Essendon footballer Nathan Lovett-Murray has avoided conviction after he was charged with unlicensed driving.

Lovett-Murray, 28, failed to renew his licence after it expired in July.

In the Broadmeadows Magistrates' Court on Thursday, Magistrate Robert Kumar granted Lovett-Murray a diversion from any further legal proceedings.

He accepted that the footballer had already made a $300 donation to Sports Health Check's Indigenous program.

Lovett-Murray was also ordered to write a letter of thanks to police for the opportunity to avoid any harsher penalties.

The magistrate also acknowledged that Lovett-Murray had renewed his driving licence.

Lovett-Murray, who appeared in court wearing a charcoal-coloured suit, did not say anything as he left the precinct. - AAP
