Grants to support young people
Issue 98 - 09 Feb 2006

NATIONAL, Issue 98: The Foundation for Young Australians is calling for applications for Indigenous Small Grants.

Indigenous Small Grants provide funding to Indigenous organisations and organisations that work with Indigenous young people and communities to develop new initiatives as well as the expansion of existing successful initiatives.

The average grant allocation will be around $2,500 with the maximum grant being $5,000.

“Indigenous Small Grants aim to support initiatives that enhance youth participation or create opportunities for the development of young Indigenous people,” said Josephine Bourne, Spokesperson for Indigenous Small Grants.

First round applications opened on January 20 and close on March 6, 2006. The Selection Committee will meet quarterly throughout the year to decide on applications received.

The Foundation for Young Australians is a non profit organisation committed to developing initiatives that support and empower the lives of young Australians aged 12 to 25.

The Foundation commits over $4 million each year to provide opportunities for young people, with a particular focus on supporting them to reach their full potential and make a contribution to the community.

At least 20 percent of The Foundation’s total funding is committed to programs that benefit Indigenous young people.

Potential applicants can find out more by logging onto www.youngaustralians.org or by calling 03 9670 5436 or 1800 252 316.
